Gratitude, and a great Harvest Festival!

Thanks to all of you who came out for the 2nd Annual Red Hook Harvest Festival on October 21st! It was an incredible celebration of community and food-- far beyond our expectations-- with almost 1,800 people present. To read more about the day, check out articles written by Added Value youth participants at: www.added-value.org/digitalhorizons/

You can also look through some beautiful photographs of the Festival (and maybe see yourself!) at: http://www.added-value.org/digitalhorizons/harvestfest06/index.html

We've celebrated the Harvest, but our Farmers' Market continues, Saturdays at the farm until Thanksgiving. The cooler weather means we are growing really delicious greens. We're also selling pasture-raised Turkey for your Thanksgiving dinner! Come down, lend a hand, and enjoy the sunshine in the weeks before winter.

It's been a busy month at Added Value-- so keep an eye on our website for stories from our travels! Youth Participants have been visiting farms in Massachusetts and Long Island, bringing new knowledge about agriculture, marketing, and alternative energy back to Red Hook. If you’re visiting our website, you’ll also see the short PSA video developed by our youth team this fall called “Why Is There A Farm In Red Hook.”

Ian just returned from a trip to Italy, where he participated in Terra Madre, the Slow Food convention that brought together five-thousand farmers and food producers, one-thousand chefs, and eight-hundred academics from around the world. Check out www.terramadre.org. You can also read about Added Value and other food producers in the fall issue of colors magazine: www.colorsmagazine.com (we’re on page 12).

Enjoy the beautiful autumn and we hope to see you on the farm soon!
