1. Volunteer Opportunities
Join us on the farm every Saturday for the Red Hook Farmers' Market and Community Farm days! Pull weeds, harvest tomatoes, turn compost, build beds, plant salad... We're on the farm from 9am-3pm.
Harvest Festival volunteers needed! We're looking for folks to help in the week leading up to the event, and that day (Oct 20th). If you're interested in lending a hand with outreach, kids activities, raffle, setup and cleanup, pumpkin patch, or general preparation, please email [email protected]
Are you a Red Hook resident who loves to shop? Do you want to lend a hand to The Sprout: an amazing farm and food program happening at PS 15? We need a lovely and responsible human to pick up weekly groceries for our budding chefs and farmers. This is a one morning a week gig. The groceries can be delivered so there is no lugging unless you want to build those biceps. Starts the 4th week in October. Please contact Cristina for details: [email protected]
** 2. Fall Field Trips for Elementary Schools: Added Value is pleased to announce our fall series of Farm field trips for elementary school groups to the Red Hook Community Farm! The Farm is an ideal place to learn about life cycles, sequencing, community interdependence, living creatures, and where our food comes from, as well as a place to build skills. Cooperation, writing, observation, and inquiry-based learning are all part of a day on the Farm. Children who visit leave feeling proud of their work, and excited about the new things they have tried: tasting a radish for the first time, digging in soil, pulling a weed out of the ground.
Visits last for two hours. We begin with an introduction to the place, and the story of its growth from underused ball field into a thriving community farm. Children then participate in the following hands-on activity stations: - Compost and Compost Critters: How Soil is Made - Farm Explore: Observational Drawing and Writing - Harvest: 6 Plant Part Burrito or Salad-Making
This fall, we are offering a limited number of visits during the first two weeks of October. Available dates are Monday through Friday, October 1st through October 12th. Morning visits are from 9:30-12:00, afternoon visits are from 12:30-2:00. Cost is $5 per student. Groups of between 10 and 40 children are welcome.
We are currently in the process of building a schedule. To reserve a visit, please send requested dates to [email protected]. Specify morning or afternoon visit. Reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.
We look forward to seeing you on the farm!!
