June at Added Value & Summer Jobs!
It's June at Added Value and the strawberries are turning red. We're harvesting lettuce for our restaurant and, now that it's warm, we're finally transplanting our tomatoes.
Come on out to the Farm this Saturday June 7th for a big community volunteer day! Join us between 10-3.
Other exciting news:
Farmers' Market Our Market begins on Saturday July 5th on the Red Hook Community Farm. Come buy locally-grown veggies, lend a hand on the Farm, and meet the young people who grew the food!
Compost at Added Value Melanie Chopko, a former Compost Educator with the Manhattan Compost Project, just joined Added Value to help coordinate our growing compost operation. We'rebreaking down waste from Rice Restaurant, our Farm and Market, Greener Pastures Brooklyn-grown wheatgrass, and local woodshops, trees, and chickens! Keep your eyes out for more information about our growing community composting project, and how you can get involved.
NY Press! Check out a great write-up of Ici's brunch (and Added Value greens for breakfast) in NY Magazine: http://nymag.com/restaurants/features/breakfast/47394/index1.html
And read about incredible NY City Farmers in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/07/dining/07urban.html
And speaking of restaurants.... We continue to sell Brooklyn-grown veggies to Ici Restaurant (Fort Greene), The Good Fork (Red Hook), and Tini (Red Hook). This season we've got a new restaurant partner, too: Applewood Restaurant in Park Slope! Visit all these restaurants and enjoy fresh, delicious food!
